Description

Reaper Chronoscope 50101 - Duke Jones, Astronaut.

I painted this fellow up in a style meant to evoke the look of a NASA astronaut in some respects, although the styling of the suit isn't necessarily in keeping with any actual astronaut gear. (For one thing, I'm fairly sure the typical American astronaut didn't go into hard vacuum with a button-up fly, and wouldn't light up a stogie while in a space suit.)

I used this figure to represent one of the pre-generated heroes for a Slipstream one-shot scenario I ran, in which "Duke Jones" was an American astronaut from an alternate-timeline Earth, where the space program took off a bit earlier. This poor fellow got sucked into a "space vortex" and dumped into the Slipstream pocket-universe (the setting for the Slipstream RPG), where rocketships-and-rayguns technology abounds.

Although he's a skilled pilot and has some basic training in the use of a gun, Duke's really in his element at hand-to-hand combat. I was really pleased in my test skirmish how the player took full advantage of Duke's strengths in a ship-board fight: For instance, the spacers here are used to anti-grav technology on all their ships, whereas Duke has zero-G training thanks to being from "primitive" Earth ... so one of this first moves was to shut off the gravity in the ship before taking on the bad guys. Ah ... but I digress. That really has nothing to do with the MINIATURE. ;)

As with most of my Slipstream and generic-sci-fi miniatures, I've replaced the 30mm slotted base that came with the miniature, using some pinning to put the figure on a 25mm resin "industrial" base from War Cast Studios instead ([link]).
