Crystal Cavern Work in Progress

This is an older work-in-progress picture of the crystal cavern board, as it does a better job of showing the detailing on the plastic bottom layer, before adding the Woodland Scenics Water Effects. (The "water effects" make it really hard to take a decent picture without it looking cloudy unless I'm directly above the board and shooting straight down -- at which point I don't have the advantage of a tripod to steady the shot.)

This was assembled by my friend, Chris Stadler, using Hirst Arts Castlemolds castings ([link]), with a foam insulation board layer on bottom, and a layer of flat plastic on the very bottom, sealed with some olive-drab custom-mixed acrylic house paint. I did the painting of the "trompe l'oeil" bottom effect, and additional detailing.

This is part of a project to make 3D gaming boards for use with Super Dungeon Explore (Soda Pop Miniatures - [link]).
